Super Duplex 2507 Forged Bar, UNS S32750

Super Duplex 2507 forged bar in UNS S32750 (EN 1.4410) covers heavy-section billet, rough-machined bar and pre-forged stock above 200 mm diameter where rolled bar is no longer practical and forging consolidates the as-cast structure. TorqBolt sources 2507 forged bar from open-die press shops in 200 mm to 800 mm sections, supplied with EN 10204 Type 3.1 mill certificates and Type 3.2 third-party-witnessed on request, ready for machining flanges, fittings, valve bodies and subsea hardware.

Forged bar is supplied to ASTM A182 grade F53 for forged stainless steel for piping components and ASME SA-182 for ASME Section VIII pressure vessels. Heavier rolled bar follows ASTM A479. Sour-service certification per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 is available with controlled hardness, ferrite content and grain flow.

    Forging and Heat Treatment

2507 forging window is 1100 to 1230 degrees Celsius. Final reduction must finish above 950 degrees Celsius so the duplex microstructure stays balanced. The forged bar is then solution annealed at 1040 to 1100 degrees Celsius and water quenched. Heavy sections (above 250 mm) are quenched in agitated water to drive the bar through the 600 to 1000 degrees Celsius sigma-phase precipitation window before chi or sigma can nucleate.

    • Heavy section quench rate is the single most common cause of low Charpy values and failed pitting tests on as-supplied 2507 forged stock.
    • NORSOK M-650 QTR (Qualification Test Record) is mandatory for forgings supplied to Norwegian Continental Shelf projects, with QTR validity 5 years subject to essential variable control.
    • Test sample location and orientation per NORSOK M-630 (T/4 for tensiles, surface and core for ferrite count).

Super Duplex 2507 Forged Bar Applications

    • Forged stock for ASME B16.5 and B16.47 flanges, weld-neck and blind
    • Forged stock for ASME B16.9 buttweld fittings (elbows, tees, reducers)
    • Subsea manifold blocks, christmas tree forgings and wellhead components
    • Pump casings, valve bodies and pressure-retaining hardware
    • Tube-sheet stock for high-pressure heat exchangers in seawater service

Super Duplex 2507 Forged Bar FAQ

Which standards cover 2507 forged bar?

ASTM A182 grade F53 (forged stainless for piping), ASME SA-182 (Section VIII pressure vessels), EN 10222-5 (forgings for pressure purposes), NORSOK M-630 (material data sheet), NORSOK M-650 (qualification of manufacturers) and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 for sour service.

When do I order forged bar instead of rolled bar?

Above 300 mm diameter, rolled bar becomes impractical due to mill capability and grain coarsening. Forged bar consolidates the as-cast structure, refines grain to ASTM 4 or finer and meets pressure-vessel toughness requirements. Below 300 mm rolled bar to A479 is normally specified.

What is NORSOK M-650 QTR and when is it required?

NORSOK M-650 is the qualification of manufacturers of special materials, with the Qualification Test Record (QTR) valid for 5 years subject to essential variable control (chemistry, heat-treatment cycle, section size, mill of origin). QTR is mandatory for super duplex forgings supplied to projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and to many North Sea operators worldwide.

Can 2507 forged bar be supplied with NACE certification?

Yes, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 compliance is available with 28 HRC max hardness, ferrite within 35 to 65 percent and chemistry within the prescribed envelope. The application zone, H2S partial pressure and chloride limits are reported on the EN 10204 Type 3.1 or 3.2 certificate.

Does 2507 forged bar contain copper?

No, copper is not an intentional alloying element in UNS S32750. ASTM A182 F53 permits 0.50 max as residual, not intentional. Copper-bearing super duplex grades are Zeron 100 (S32760, ASTM A182 F55) and Ferralium 255 (S32550), which are different alloys with different forging specifications.

What test sample location is used for 2507 forged bar?

Per NORSOK M-630 the tensile and impact samples are taken at T/4 (one-quarter wall thickness) location, oriented transverse to the principal forging direction. Ferrite count is taken at the surface and at the core to confirm the 35 to 55 percent band is met across the section.
