Super Duplex 2507 Plate, UNS S32750 ASTM A240

Super Duplex 2507 plate in UNS S32750 (EN 1.4410, X2CrNiMoN25-7-4) is the workhorse hot-rolled flat product for chloride-service pressure vessels, heat-exchanger tube sheets, FGD scrubber bodies, desalination evaporator shells and the heavier process tanks where 6 percent molybdenum austenitics pit and 2205 duplex runs out of margin. TorqBolt holds 2507 plate from 4.75 mm through 100 mm at the Mumbai warehouse, hot-rolled, solution annealed and pickled, with EN 10204 Type 3.1 certificates and Type 3.2 third-party-witnessed on request.

Plate is supplied to ASTM A240 for chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel sheet, plate and strip for pressure vessels, EN 10088-2 (Werkstoff 1.4410) for European supply, and NORSOK M-630 material data sheet. Sour-service certification per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 is available with controlled hardness, ferrite balance and impact toughness.

    Heat Treatment

Solution annealing at 1040 to 1100 degrees Celsius followed by rapid water quench. Heavy plate (above 50 mm) is quenched in agitated water to drive the section through the 600 to 1000 degrees Celsius sigma-phase precipitation window before chi or sigma can nucleate. Quench delay or air cooling on heavy section is the single most common cause of low Charpy values and failed G48 pitting tests on as-supplied plate.

    Welding 2507 Plate

    • Filler ER2594 (overmatching) or ER2553 (matching) per AWS A5.9
    • Heat input 0.5 to 2.5 kJ per millimetre, interpass below 150 degrees Celsius
    • Argon plus 2 to 5 percent nitrogen shielding for GTAW root pass
    • WPS qualified per ASME IX with NORSOK M-601 acceptance
    • Post-weld ferrite count 35 to 65 percent in weld metal per ASTM E562
    • Solution annealing after welding restores full corrosion performance on heavy fabrications

    Super Duplex 2507 Plate Applications

    • Pressure-vessel shells, heads and skirts in chloride process service
    • Heat-exchanger tube sheets and channel covers for seawater and FGD duty
    • FGD wet scrubber bodies, absorbers, quenchers and ductwork
    • Desalination MSF and MED evaporator shells, brine recirculation tanks
    • Subsea manifold housings, pump casings and fabricated valve bodies
    • Pulp and paper bleach plant chlorine dioxide reactor walls

    Super Duplex 2507 Plate FAQ

    Which standards cover 2507 plate?

ASTM A240 (chromium and chromium-nickel stainless plate for pressure vessels, designation S32750), EN 10088-2 (Werkstoff 1.4410), NORSOK M-630 (material data sheet) and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 for sour service. ASME SA-240 references the same chemistry for ASME Section VIII pressure-vessel construction.

What is the size range for 2507 plate?

Thickness 4.75 mm to 100 mm. Width 1500 to 3000 mm. Length 3000 to 12000 mm. Below 4.75 mm the product is supplied as cold-rolled sheet to EN 10088-2 with 2B finish. Heavier plate (above 100 mm) is supplied as forged plate to ASTM A182 F53.

What pitting test does ASTM A240 require?

ASTM G48 Method A (ferric chloride pitting) at 50 degrees Celsius for 24 hours, with no pitting and weight loss below 4.0 grams per square metre. NORSOK M-630 specifies the same test at 50 degrees Celsius for ferritic-austenitic stainless steel category MDS D55.

Can 2507 plate be cold-formed into vessel heads?

Yes, but minimum bend radius is roughly 2 times thickness for transverse bends and the high yield strength (550 MPa min) means press capacity must be sized accordingly. Heavy cold-formed heads should be solution annealed and water quenched after forming to recover the 35 to 55 percent ferrite balance.

What weld filler do I use on 2507 plate?

ER2594 (overmatching, slightly higher PREN) or ER2553 (matching) per AWS A5.9. Heat input 0.5 to 2.5 kJ per millimetre, interpass below 150 degrees Celsius, argon plus 2 to 5 percent nitrogen shielding for GTAW root. Post-weld ferrite count target is 35 to 65 percent in weld metal per ASTM E562.

    Does 2507 plate contain copper?

No, copper is not an intentional alloying element in UNS S32750. ASTM A240 permits 0.50 max as residual, not intentional. Copper-bearing super duplex grades are Zeron 100 (S32760) and Ferralium 255 (S32550), which are different alloys with different ASTM and ASME plate specifications.
